The icon converter is a program to create an icon or cursor from all or part of an image. It can also save an icon as an image. The program can handle JPG, PNG, GIF and BMP.
Program Features:
- Select any portion of the image for your icon
- Create icon files with multiple resolutions
- Create Vista compatible (up to 256×256) icons using images with alpha (transparency) data.
- Create a transparency mask for the icon
- Create a cursor (with hotpoint) from an image
- Extract the icon from an executable
- Save the icon as an image
Requirements: Windows XP or later. You will need .NET 2.0 or later. .NET is built into windows Vista and is available for free from Microsoft for windows XP. See the download page for a link to .NET.

Extract Icons from Windows

IconsExtract
The IconsExtract utility scans the files and folders on your computer, and extract the icons and cursors stored in EXE, DLL, OCX, CPL, and in other file types. You can save the extracted icons to ICO files (or CUR files for cursors), or copy the image of a single icon into the clipboard.
How to use IconsExtract?
- Download and Install “IconsExtract”
- Open program and then click menu “Files” then select “Search for Icons”
- Click “Browse Folders” and select any folder (recommend to use C:\windows\system32)
- Click “OK” to confirm, program will back to “Search for Icons” page
- Click “Search for Icons” button below and wait until complete

Note: IconsExtract can only extract icons from 32-bit executable files. It cannot extract icons from 16-bit files.
